About Me

As a self-taught guitarist for the past 5 years, my aim is to make sure that students get to learn what they want to learn. I believe that working towards playing something you really wish you could play is one of the biggest motivators for regular practice. One of my goals now is to help other people who are in the same place I was myself 5 years ago, wanting to get really good at guitar, and wanting the guidance to get there. I have recently graduated with a First Class Honours having studied Composition on the Popular Music (BA Hons) course at Edinburgh Napier University, so I can incorporate guitar with songwriting lessons too.

My teaching approach is often very conversational, in order to help my students really engage in the lessons and to help ensure that they leave the lessons having learned something new and made some progress. I encourage them to ask questions whenever something is not clear; no questions are daft! My lessons often include fast-paced games/exercises that help students improve their aural skills (i.e chord and rhythms recognition) so that if they wish to learn songs by themselves, they can do so by ear, or as well as using tablature and notation.

While my teaching style can be conversational, I can easily adapt my style to suit the needs, personality and character of each student. On that note, I truly love working with students of all ages and get so much satisfaction from seeing how they grow and develop in their skills, performance and confidence.  If all sounds of interest, don't hesitate to get in touch for in-person lessons in Newington area, Edinburgh.
